Towards the tail-end of my medical training journey this year, I remember pondering of ways where I could literally give back. I found myself searching for various foundations and NGO’s online where I could possibly be of help. Will it be an organization related to education? Or a group centered on feeding the poor? Will it be a charity centered for kids? Numerous hours passed, but to no avail, I still cannot find an answer.
Eventually, the most obvious opportunity was sent. Last May 27, 2022 – I was gifted by the Lord, the privilege to serve as a physician volunteer on a Medical Mission co-organized by No One in Need movement and APO society, held at Boac, Marinduque. I haven’t been on a med mission for years. It was indeed the most obvious way, because I “literally” graduated from my recent medical training a day before the event.
Throughout the trip, I was in awe – from the witnessed unquestionable “passion for service” among the volunteers, to the meeting of new friends, to the listening of simple stories of patients who were in queue for consultation, and as a bonus – to the wonderful scenery throughout the trip.
My heart was filled with gratitude to the Lord for refreshing me of this apparent way of “giving back”, that I have been searching for. I pray that this journey of seeking the Lord and being present for others stay in my heart and spirit always.
“Very truly, I tell you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, He will give it to you.”
